Incorporating Your Intuition Into Your Business Strategy By Vanessa Abron

When I first started my business, I must admit that I wasn’t the most confident.  I carried with me the checklist of shortcomings others passed down to me, and I often thought, “Am I really good enough to be doing this?”  I read business books and articles on how other moguls achieved their success, hoping to learn their formula and apply it to my business so I can replicate exactly what they did.  I had ideas in the back of my mind that I wanted to implement, and my intuition would tell me to do other things. I was hesitant because I was a new entrepreneur and I didn’t trust my gut.  My ideas weren’t proven, and the success of the popular business leaders seemed more effective.

To guide me with the development of my business, I enlisted a few trusted business consultants to help me along the way.  I would tell them about a few of my ideas, and they enthusiastically encouraged me to pursue them. This shocked me, but yet I decided to take baby steps in implementing some of my business ideas.  Surprisingly, my initiatives were well received amongst the audience I was targeting, which ultimately gave me a sense of empowerment. To add to this momentum, I met a woman at a networking event and she told me that if I learned to trust my intuition more than I would be more successful.

She said, “Your intuition is like your internal GPS.  Think about a time when you entered a location you were familiar with into your GPS, yet didn’t know how to get there from your current starting point.  As you got closer, the GPS tells you to turn left, but you know your destination is only a mile up. So, you ignore the GPS and keep straight. As you get closer, you realize that there was an accident that is now prohibiting you from reaching your destination.  Had you turned right, you would have avoided the accident and made it to your destination in a timely manner.”

When she said this to me, it clicked.  While our intuition may not seem to make “logical” sense in a moment, it’s often guiding us to take the best road for our own personal journey.  After that conversation, I reflected on the numerous times I ignored my intuition and wished I hadn’t. I realized then that my intuition was ALWAYS right, despite what my friends and family said, despite what old work colleagues and supervisors said and despite my own apprehensions.

Following my own intuition has now become my number one strategy and it’s yet to fail me.  If we really pay attention to the moguls, we will also see that they also gained their success by following their intuition.  Their now proven formulas were actually unproven until they decided to implement them. Trusting our gut is essential for us to reach our success because we all have a unique journey that no one else’s formula can dictate to us.  Therefore, if there’s an idea that you’ve been wanting to try but just doesn’t seem to make sense to everyone else, I encourage you to take a leap and try it out. It just may be the million-dollar idea the world is waiting on.
