Johnson received a Master of Science degree from the Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) program at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She graduated cum laude, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations and a minor in Business Administration from Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio.

Reared in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Johnson learned the value of service as the key ingredient to leaving a legacy. She attended Otterbein College on a community service scholarship, where she served as coordinator of the Indianola Middle School Program, a nationally recognized mentor program, honored by President Bill Clinton for its innovative impact in bringing hundreds of college students into community service. Johnson was recently inducted into the Otterbein College African American Hall of Fame in 2009.

Johnson currently resides in Atlanta, GA and enjoys extreme fitness, dancing, cooking, spending time with family and of course, sports.
