We Are Inspired By This BOSS: Shakara Bridgers

Shakara Bridgers is a successful entrepreneur, author, mentor and blossoming chef from Harlem, New York. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. A year after graduating, Shakara returned to New York to pursue a career in entertainment- first working in finance and marketing for Red Distribution, a division of Sony Music and then in event promotions for Barbados -based Guttaperk Entertainment.

In 2007, Shakara partnered with her friends Jeniece Isley and Joan Davis to co-write and self-publish the bestselling cookbook, The Get 'Em Girls' Guide to the Power of Cuisine under their own publishing company; Subira Publishing. In 2008 the ladies signed a two book publishing deal with Simon & Schuster for the re-release of The Get 'Em Girls' Guide to the Power of Cuisine (2008) and The Get 'Em Girls' Guide to Planning the Perfect Get-Together (2009).

The partners went on to found Get 'Em Girl Inc. an innovative multimedia company dedicated to celebrating the unique voice of the modern chic multicultural woman. GEG brand extensions include The Get 'Em Girls' Guide book series, Getemgirls.com, Get 'Em Girls' Bite Out events, Get 'Em Girls' Catering, and GEG Television. The GEG brand has been featured in top print and online media, major market radio and major media outlets such as NBC's Today Show.

In just two years, Get 'Em Girls' Catering has grown to become one of the most sought-after boutique caterers to New York City's modern chic crowd; catering for such brands as BET, MTV, Carol's Daughter, Microsoft and LVMH Moët Hennessy/Louis Vuitton S.A..  In 2011 you can add restaurateur to Shakara's resume as the Get 'Em Girl brand opens their flagship store in Harlem; the Cupcake Suite: Cupcakery & Catering.

Believing that it is her duty to guide the future leaders of the world, Shakara is an active mentor and a planning committee member of WEEN (Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network).
