TheBOSSNetwork:  What were some obstacles that you faced in the beginning process of starting your business or career?

Nicole Woodcox Bolden: I am still in the beginning of starting my business and the biggest obstacle I have faced is fighting the urge to do everything immediately. While studying other entrepreneurs it can be easy to forget that it take most successful business people years to get to where they are and to try to get there in 90 days or less can be a set-up for failure or early burnout. Due to being pregnant. I am trying to get as much accomplished as possible before giving birth and have found myself falling into this trap. After receiving some much needed consultation, I have been reminded to focus on building a strong foundation because entrepreneurship is a marathon not a sprint.

BN: What inspired you to break into your particular industry?

NB: There were multiple instances that inspired me, but the biggest push came during this pregnancy. A local midwife practice, who told me that they had never had to turn a woman away from receiving their services due to risk, turned me away. This situation inspired me because this practice didn’t turn me away because my pregnancy was super high risk, they turned me away because they could not properly support me. I am not a woman who just takes things at face value, I do my research, ask questions and will ask for well tested evidence to back what you telling me. So this experience, along with other instances, inspired me to create a service &community where women and families could feel supported throughout pregnancy and the first year of having a child with professionals who are not judgmental, utilize evidence-based techniques, and truly believe that people are the best experts over their own lives.

BN: How do you balance your personal and professional life or have you been able to find a balance?

NB:A statement that I heard from Lisa Nichols that has stuck with me says that balance shouldn’t be the goal harmony should. The reality is that pursing balancing can be unrealistic because balance is spending an equal amount of time in all areas of life whereas seeking harmony is finding that sweet spot of quality and quantity of time that is spent in all areas of your life that brings you a sense of peace. I am still working on finding that harmony, but I am getting better at it. I am realizing that I am more productive after I have rested and spent time with my family.

BN: What is an inspirational quote that you live by?

NB:Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (NKJV)

BN: Who were some influential people or mentors that helped or encouraged you along the way?

NB: Lisa Nichols, Stephen Convey, Rosetta Thurman, my husband, and my best friend

BN: What are your "must-have" to keep your career or business going strong?

NB: My journal where I keep all ideas for future blog post or business ideas and process all things business related, a planner/calendar, a trusted confidant that will slap some sense into you when you want to give up, and willingness to always be open to learning.

BN: What is your definition of a BOSS?

NB: A BOSS is a person who confident in her skills and worth, who is not easily deterred from pursuing her dreams.
