Courtney Gavin is a wife, mother, and business start-up expert. Over a span of 10 years, Courtney and her husband Jamison created several businesses such as real estate, software, and e-commerce. One of their businesses was acquired by a Fortune 200 company. Courtney knows firsthand what it takes to win in business. In 2017, Courtney founded Xelda Company, a woman-owned business that provides janitorial services and supplies.In her spare time, Courtney enjoys volunteering at church, cycling, and blogging. Courtney has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular Biology & Microbiology from the University of Central Florida. Courtney currently resides in Florida with her husband and two kids.
What were some obstacles that you faced in the beginning process of starting your business or career?
My biggest obstacle, in the beginning, was my fear of the unknown. The fear would become so great that I would be afraid to take the next step. I had to give myself permission to fail and I just started taking action day by day. Instead of focusing on possible failure, I focused on the possibility of success.

What inspired you to break into your industry?
One day my husband and I were at a soccer game and he asked me, “who cleans up the parks when everyone leaves?” It was a great question because it never crossed my mind before and neither of us had the answer. That is when the idea of event cleanup was sparked.
How do you balance your personal and professional life, or have you been able to find a balance?

Finding that balance can be really challenging, after all being a business owner is very personal and is often intertwined into one. The best way that I balance personal and business life is through time management and being highly organized.

“Do not try to become a person of success but try to become a person of value.” – Albert Einstein I’ve lived by this quote since I started my entrepreneur journey. Focus on adding value to people’s lives and success will come.

I am super grateful to have amazing family members supporting me and encouraging me. My biggest fan is certainly my husband, he is always encouraging me to do the things that scare me and to just go for it.

What are your must-haves to keep your career or business going strong?
My business must-haves include a planner, a CRM, and a laptop. These things keep me organized and on track with my goals.
