What were some obstacles that you faced in the beginning process of starting your business or career?
When I first started in business, I faced many challenges. The biggest one, however,
was delegating. I DID NOT KNOW  HOW TO DELEGATE Y’ALL!

Because I am a recovering multi-tasker, I believed that I had to do everything in my
business—from the admin tasks to making executive-level
decisions. This craziness caused my business’s growth to be stunted. I spent too much time and energy on things I should have delegated and as a result I became the “bottle neck” in my business. My advice to new entrepreneurs is to hire an assistant as soon as possible.  Have the courage to decide what things you DON’T need to do so that you can focus on growing your business and making money.

What inspired you to break into your industry?
For as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to give people the tools to be better,
to live their dreams and to step into their purpose. That’s what I did when I worked in
radio and TV back in the early 2000’s and that’s what I do today as an independent
content creator and Business coach. My purpose in life is to teach and elevate people to
new levels. That’s what I was born to do.

How do you balance your personal and professional life, or have you been able to
find a balance?

Balance? LOL! Listen, the way my life is set up there’s no such thing as balance. I came
to grips with that fact a long time ago. For me, there are seasons in my life where I give
the majority of my time and energy to my family. There are other seasons where I’m
working until the wee hours creating something amazing. There are seasons where I
spend large amounts of time alone. I go with what my soul craves in the moment. I don’t
have a firm grip on balance. What I do have however is a solid morning routine. This
is the time that I set aside everyday first thing in the morning to pray, meditate, workout,
journal and commune with God. This practice helps me get things done even without
so-called “balance.”

What is an inspirational quote that you live by?
There’s a large poster on the wall of my office that reminds me of one of my favorite
scriptures. It comes from Luke 6:38 and it says, “Give and it shall be given unto you,
pressed down, shaken together and pouring out into your lap shall men give to you.

Who were some influential people or mentors that helped or encouraged you along
the way?

I was blessed to have some amazing mentors as I was coming up in broadcasting:
Edye Deloach-Hughes, Jennifer Schultz, Bob Dale, Cheryl Burton from ABC7, Melody
Spann-Cooper from WVON and many more. When I started my coaching business I
was mentored by Lisa Nichols (she is still my speaking coach) and Kendall
SummerHawk. As a young girl I had a deep admiration for Oprah Winfrey. She showed
me that a young black girl from the inner city could make a difference in the world.

What are your must-haves to keep your career or business going strong?
My must haves for keeping my business going are:
1. Team to help me plan my work and work my plan.
2. A coach to help me stay out of my own way.
3. A circle of other business owners that I can share ideas with and bounce things
off of.

What is your definition of a BOSS?

A BOSS is someone who owns her greatness, her brilliance and her purpose. She does
not allow fear or doubt to stop her. She is not afraid to ask for what she’s worth and she
not afraid to ask for what she wants. She helps others, she listens, she’s disciplined,
she’s generous and she values her own health and well-being. That’s a BOSS.
