BOSS Spotlight Feature: Stephanie Lane

Stephanie Lane is an Assistant Project Manager at a Construction Management Company. Lane is the Founder and Chief Executive Cultivator of Pure Ingredients Farm, LLC. This farm reflects her commitment to healthy living, and to making her small patch of Earth a better place for her community to thrive.

1. What were some obstacles that you faced in the beginning process of starting your business or career?
Working In the commercial construction industry is a fast-paced career. I had to gain the confidence and trust of my colleagues. There is also the challenge of collaborating with people who have different personalities from various disciplines. I proved myself by displaying that I was reliable, able to deliver quality work on time, and can work well with others. Being myself has played a big role in the success that I have today.

As far as my business, Pure Ingredients Farm, I believe getting started was the hard part. Life can easily take over and consume your time and mindset. I made a promise to myself that I would take my time and move through each phase with as less stress as possible because I knew things would progress in God’s timing but with my effort.

2. What inspired you to break into your industry?
I chose Architectural Engineering because of the various concentrations I could learn and choose a career from, whether it was electrical / lighting, HVAC or plumbing, and much more. Ultimately, I chose construction management because it best fits my needs and goals. I have always been fascinated by how materials are put together to form an object. Studying and understanding buildings magnified that interest. Some people have a career and a purpose, I feel like my career is my purpose.

3. How do you balance your personal and professional life, or have you been able to find a balance?
Balancing my personal and professional life is a continuous challenge of accomplishments in itself. Making lists, prioritizing responsibilities and multi-tasking had led me to create a system where I can function productively while adjusting accordingly when life happens. Finding balance will be a forever ongoing task as my life continues to evolve.

4. What is an inspirational quote that you live by?
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” - Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)

This quote has gotten me through college, projects at work, and a plethora of goals that I have achieved. I learned that no matter what stage I am at currently, this is my reality only for a period of time, and the end result of where I am supposed to be is coming. This is how I was able to stay the course.

5. Who were some influential people or mentors that helped or encouraged you along the way?
God has always made sure I encounter people to help mold and guide me on His pathway for my life. Besides my family, Bill Carter, a Project Executive at my previous company in Construction Management, has always told me that everyone here puts their pants on one leg at a time just like you. That meant to me that we are all human and I was just as important as everyone else.

6. What are your "must-haves" to keep your career or business going strong?
I strongly believe that observation (being able to evaluate a situation and make a good judgment call), organization (generating a prioritized list), and presentation (how you carry yourself and speak to others) play very important roles in your business and career.

7. What is your definition of a BOSS?
A boss is someone who is a diligent worker, pays attention to detail, embodies excellent communication skills, is very organized, has great work ethics, high integrity, and is respectful to others all while operating their company.

8. Provide us with two words that describe you? Eclectic Optimistic
