BOSS Spotlight Feature: Wanda Banks-Green

Wanda Banks-Green is a branding specialist, CEO, and founder of ZAG Branding Solutions.  A dynamic communicator and marketing executive. She is known for her tenacity and passion to create effective marketing campaigns using promotional products. She helps companies improve their brand recognition, launching new products, implementing marketing programs, and promoting events.

What were some obstacles that you faced in the beginning process of starting your business or career? One of the biggest challenges I faced was learning how to navigate a new industry. I had to teach myself everything from scratch and learn from my mistakes along the way. This was a steep learning curve, but it was also an incredibly rewarding experience. By taking the time to educate myself and staying open to learning new things, I was able to overcome many of the obstacles that came my way. I saw this as an opportunity to learn and grow.

What inspired you to break into your industry? My biggest inspiration was finding a business that gave me the opportunity to be creative and use my skills and talents to help other businesses and organizations.  I enjoy helping others express their thoughts and ideas in a creative way.  

How do you balance your personal and professional life, or have you been able to find a balance?  As an entrepreneur, I realize your day really does not end. I know that it is important to make time for myself and my family.   I make a point to not work on weekends, and schedule fun time with family and friends. Take a well-deserved vacation, not a business trip.  Most importantly, what has helped me is daily meditation. 

What is an inspirational quote that you live by? A dream is just a dream. A goal is a dream with a plan and a deadline.

Who were some influential people or mentors that helped or encouraged you along the way? There have been a few who have been an inspiration in my life.  My grandmother started all of it. She always encouraged me to keep pushing and do better. Next, I would have to say is my business coach. Who has helped me to stay focused, work through my challenges and seek other business opportunities.  I cannot leave out my Husband and adult children, they have been very supportive helping me to keep focus and bring new ideas into my business. 

What are your "must-haves" to keep your career or business going strong? The must haves I need to keep my business going strong are flexibility, variety in my work, fun, and laughs.  

What is your definition of a BOSS? A BOSS is someone who leads, inspires, coaches and sets examples for others to reach their potential.

BOSS & Sage Announce 2024 Invest in Progress Grant Winners

We’re excited to announce the recipients of the 2024 Invest in Progress Grant, a collaborative initiative by Sage and The BOSS Network . This partnership has seen Sage commit funding over three years to empower small businesses with the resources they need to thrive. The selected recipients stand out for their dedication to community, entrepreneurial spirit, and a desire to grow their professional skills.  Each will be awarded a $10,000 grant and gain access to a year-long monthly mentorship program through BOSS Business University. This online platform is designed to provide the tools and knowledge necessary to successfully launch or grow a business.
