Focusing on What Matters Most in 2024 by Stephanie Lewis

Stephanie Lewis is the founder of LiveWellFlow and an attorney. She helps leaders, managers, and entrepreneurs improve their lifestyles by teaching them mindfulness practices that help them reduce stress, improve their health, better manage their time, and live in greater alignment with their values.

A new year often brings with it ambitious goals. By the third week of January, goals are abandoned and discouragement has set in. This can offer an opportunity though for a more profound exploration of what really matters and why. It's a chance to assess if goals were feasible goals and if adjustments need to be made on how to reach them.
When thinking about what you want to achieve this year, several considerations may come up for you. Some potential reflections include:

Establishing boundaries conducive to personal well-being, encompassing practices such as meditation, prayer, tai chi, qigong, spiritual reading, leisure reading, and brisk walking. While adherence to these routines varies, the commitment to these practices proves valuable in nurturing the soul and shaping a positive daily experience. What practices, whether mindfulness-related or otherwise, contribute to your soul's nourishment and enhance your day? How can you incorporate or deepen these practices in your daily routine?

Crafting boundaries that harmonize family, personal, and professional aspects in alignment with personal values. This ongoing endeavor involves fostering heartful connections, nurturing relationships, and avoiding the erosion of self amidst responsibilities. The question of what truly matters most in the shortness of life serves as a frequent, yet essential, self-inquiry. In balancing family, personal, and work needs, what adjustments or relinquishments might be necessary?

Determining the focus of your professional life. The past year may have involved a shift towards expanding certain responsibilities or business offerings. Perhaps in the coming year you will continue to build your career or your business with the same or similar objectives or you have reassessed your focus and strategy. How do you want a contemplative practice, whether through meditation, prayer, and/or mindful movement (for me it’s all three), to help you move forward in 2024 or beyond?
