BOSS Member Spotlight: Cheryl Monroe
Cheryl Monroe is a highly decorated combat veteran, author, speaker, United Nations Peace Ambassador, and purpose-driven entrepreneur. As CEO of CK Management & Consultant Group and The Cleaning Advantage, she helps organizations build structure, scale with confidence, and turn opportunities into lasting impact through disciplined execution and leadership.
What obstacles did you face at the beginning of starting your business or career?
The biggest obstacle was transitioning from a structured military environment into the unpredictable world of entrepreneurship. In the Army, success is guided by clear systems and command. In business, I initially struggled with the lack of infrastructure. I also had to overcome being underestimated, particularly as a Black woman stepping into government contracting. But those challenges shaped the operational excellence and disciplined execution that define my companies today.
What inspired you to break into your industry?
I saw a gap in the commercial cleaning industry where quality, compliance, and professionalism were often undervalued. With my background in logistics and operations, I knew I could bring structure, training, and accountability to a space that touches every business and community. I wanted to build a company that not only delivered clean facilities but also created jobs, stability, and pride for the people doing the work.
How do you balance your personal and professional life, or have you found a balance?
Balance is seasonal, not static. There are times when business demands more, and times when family and personal wellness must come first. I protect my calendar, delegate intentionally, and make space to reset so I can lead effectively. Balance for me is about alignment, not perfection.
What inspirational quote do you live by?
Preparation meets opportunity, and discipline sustains success.
Who were influential people or mentors who helped or encouraged you?
My military leaders and senior warrant officers were instrumental in shaping my leadership foundation. I was also deeply influenced by strong women entrepreneurs who modeled resilience, faith, and excellence. Most importantly, my family has always been a source of encouragement and grounding.
What are your "must-haves" to keep your career or business strong?
Strong systems, continuous training, ethical leadership, clear communication, and a commitment to serving both clients and employees with excellence.
What is your definition of a BOSS?
A BOSS is someone who builds people, not just profits, leading with accountability, confidence, and compassion while creating opportunities for others to grow.
