  What is stress? Stress is an emotional and physical response to events in our lives, resulting in unpleasant feelings such as anxiety, tension, and strain.  Stress is any type of response we have to any kind of psychological, social or physical demand that has been placed on us.  Stress can be just as much physical as it is mental and it definitely can take a heavy toll on our mental health and overall well-being.   Stress is a very serio us problem in our society and many people end up missing work, or visiting their physician or the hospital because of the medical consequences of it.    Some of those consequences, which are stress-related illnesses, are hypertension, strokes, heart attacks, cancer, migraines, diabetes, arthritis, asthma, and muscle spasms.  We probably all know people who are experiencing some of these illnesses as a result of stress.   The people with whom you choose to spend your time are a reflection of you.   As the saying goes -   “Birds of a feather flock together.”   This may or may not be true in all relationships, but what IS true is that many people believe it.   Value the brand that you have created for yourself.   Value the work that you have put into making a good name for yourself in personal and professional circles.   Don’t choose friends who will destroy your hard work.   Choose friends who will lift you up and motivate you to be the best you that you can be! Surround yourself with people who are doing things and going places.  Those with no goals will only hold you back and bring you down with them.  Recognize the difference between assets and liabilities (as bad as that might sound) when it comes to friends and associates.  Are they improving your life or destroying your brand?  Are they adding some form of value to your life or...

Taking risks and exploring uncharted territory can be frightening.  But, I believe that if you have a dream and a true passion for something, you shouldn't let fear stand in your way.  You should pursue your passion at most costs.  You’ll never know what can be unless you try.  So, be bold, be courageous and TAKE RISKS.   When you take a risk, there’s a chance that things won’t work out as you planned.  There’s a chance that you may “fail”.  That fear of failing is often what keeps a person from taking risks.  What sets a person apart from everyone else is often the fact that they took a risk, an educated risk, and succeeded.  Educated risks consist of great preparation and are best utilized when preparation meets opportunity.  Here is my personal story of taking a huge risk, actually two risks, in my career: The first risk was when I opened a private practice during my first year of a Ph.D. program in Counse...
