The Great Girlfriends DiMe Take Over #WomenInspired Event Recap By Lashana L. Thomas

The Great Girlfriends DiMe Take Over #WomenInspired to Live an Extraordinary life event sponsored by Prudential and partner Dorinda Walker was a day for the books! The featured speakers made sure the women who attended would leave the event with a book full of notes. Hosted by Sybil Amuti and Brandice Daniel, of the Great Girlfriends Show, they introduced women including, Style influencer, public speaker, media personality, and entrepreneur, Tai Beauchamp, who shared her message about “The Power of You” encouraging women to understand and claim the essence of power that we all internally have. Timeless messages that we’ve heard before, but rings true when you are trying to stand out in a saturated market.

Another great speaker featured, Christina Schelling, who is the modern day “Career Scholar” working for fantastic companies such as American Express, IBM and U.S. intelligence and defense agencies. Now with Prudential, Christina is the Vice President of Talent Acquisition & Engagement in Human Resources. The biggest aha moment Christina shared is knowing the difference between drive and confidence. Some women associate their drive with their confidence, and some women who are driven lack confidence and there is a difference that women should understand.

Latina Magazine’s, Managing Editing and Author of Famous! How to Be the Star of Your Show: A Teen Girl’s Guide to Embracing Her Fabulous Self, Taiia Smart Young, spoke about being the “star of your own your show”, by using what you have and a strong support system of people who you trust, that will hold you accountable, to facilitate your personal, career, and life development goals.

A Prudential event is not over until you have a clear understanding of your finances, retirement, and the state of women and business in the economy. Lili Gil Valletta, President, CEO & Co-Founder, XL ALLIANCE Agency lead the conversation with facts about “Cultural Economics” one interesting fact is that Black and Hispanic women are no longer the minority, we are the new mass market, the numbers don’t lie. Black women are the fastest growing group of Entrepreneurs, +322% growth rate since 2007, now that’s something to stand up for.
