Lessons we can learn from Beyonce’s Renaissance Tour ticket pricing strategy.
In a world where women continue to strive for equality and recognition, there are remarkable individuals who embody the essence of knowing their value and owning their worth.
One shining example is Beyoncé. As of the writing of this article, she recently launched her Renaissance World Tour. Despite facing initial controversy surrounding what some called “high” ticket prices, Beyonce and camp stood firm, unyielding to cultural chatter, and confidently charged premium rates. Yes indeed honey, the BeyHive is spending a pretty penny to see their queen!
The way I see it, Beyoncé's unwavering belief in her value serves as an empowering example for all women to embrace their worth. So let's explore the message and mindset behind her ticket pricing strategy and allow me to offer five ways we can start applying this mindset to our own businesses and careers.
Embrace Your Expertise and Experience.
Beyoncé's journey to super-stardom has been marked by countless accolades, awards, and an absolute relentless commitment to her craft. As one of the top entertainers in the world, she understands the value she brings to the table.
Similarly, every woman (no matter what industry you’re in) possesses a unique combination of expertise, skills, and experiences that make her exceptional. By acknowledging and embracing your own expertise and lived experiences, you should confidently state your fee, negotiate your salary, and refuse to accept less than your worth in any area of life.
Set Your Standards Unapologetically.
When Beyoncé and her team decided to charge premium prices, it ignited passionate debate. Nevertheless, Team Beyonce remained steadfast, refusing to compromise her worth. This exemplifies the importance of setting your standards unapologetically. Don’t let fear or a lack of confidence around money cause you to undercharge for your products, services, or expertise. Be willing to set your fee, stand firm and refuse to settle for less than you deserve. By doing so, we send a powerful message that our worth cannot be diminished.
Leverage the Power of Scarcity.
Beyoncé's high ticket prices created a sense of exclusivity around her performances. She understood the power of scarcity and leveraged it to her advantage.
Similarly, as women, we must recognize the power of our uniqueness. No one can do what you do like you. When we own our worth and cultivate a sense of scarcity around our skills and talents, we command attention and attract opportunities that honor our worth.
Confidence Breeds Confidence.
Beyoncé's unwavering confidence in her abilities has been a driving force behind her success. She exudes self-assurance and embraces her individuality, empowering others in the process.
Sis, confidence is contagious. As women, we must believe in ourselves wholeheartedly. If this is an area you’ve had trouble in, consider partnering with a therapist or coach. Confidence is the currency of success.
Challenge the Status Quo.
I saw Beyonce in Chicago during her Formation World Tour in 2016. We were in the 9th row and tickets were slightly under $400 each. Today, $400 won’t get you anywhere near the front row. In other words, yesterday’s prices are not today’s prices!
Today, seeing Beyonce up close on stage will require a substantial investment and so far her fans have been very willing to make it.
I love this for so many reasons. For one it tells me that I can dictate my own value, regardless of what everyone else is doing. So the question is, are you truly charging your worth? Are you owning your value? Are you raising the bar for yourself and all the people that want to work with you?
By following in Bey’s footsteps, we too can challenge the norms and pave the way for future generations of empowered women entrepreneurs and professionals. Let’s be unafraid to embrace our worth and command the respect and recognition we deserve.
