BOSS Member Spotlight: Dr. Tina Armstrong

Dr. Tina Armstrong is a licensed clinical psychologist, researcher, and founder of Living Connected Psychological, Inc., reshaping the future of mental wellness for Black women. Through her work of integrating faith, science, and cultural healing, she creates spaces where women move beyond chronic stress and into flourishing, freedom, and generational restoration.

What were some obstacles you faced in the beginning process of starting your business or career?
Honestly, one of the biggest obstacles was stepping into the unknown. I left the security of traditional psychology and academia to build something that didn’t even exist yet. Creating spaces for deep healing and lasting change took a lot of faith, resilience, and trusting the process without always knowing what the full picture would look like. I’m still walking that journey — but now I’m starting to see some of the fruit, and it’s been so worth it!

What inspired you to break into your industry?
I couldn’t ignore what I was seeing — personally, clinically, and through my research — the way chronic stress was taking a toll on Black women’s lives. I knew there had to be a space that not only named these realities but offered real, transformative, faith-rooted, research-backed solutions. That’s how Living Connected Psychological, Inc. was born: from the calling to bridge psychology, spiritual wellness, and holistic flourishing for professional Black women.

How do you balance your personal and professional life, or have you found a balance?
I don’t really believe in "balance" — I believe in wellness and living intentionally. Early on, I was blessed to learn from real women during my research who shared their stories with me. They taught me it’s not about chasing perfect balance; it’s about finding your own rhythm and adjusting with grace as life shifts. I build in intentional pauses, moments for reflection, and time to rest — that’s what keeps me grounded in my faith, family, and purpose. It helps me lead from a place that feels real and whole.

What is an inspirational quote that you live by?
"Take a break, before you break."
I live by that. Transformation often starts in the pause — when you step away from the noise long enough to hear what your soul needs. That reminder keeps me grounded and helps me lead others to listen for their own invitations to heal and grow.

Who were influential people or mentors who helped or encouraged you?

I’ve been blessed with so many mentors — some official, many unofficial. I learned early on to listen, observe, and soak up wisdom wherever it showed up. My mom, dad, the church mothers, and so many others shaped me with their quiet strength, faith, and resilience. Their everyday example taught me that transformation often happens in the small, faithful moments.

What are your “must-haves” to keep your career or business strong?

  • Staying deeply rooted in faith and discernment

  • Making space for reflection, not just productivity

  • Enjoying good food and playing outside with my family

  • Surrounding myself with a community that both nurtures and challenges me

  • Honoring the slow, sacred work of real change — in myself and in those I serve

What is your definition of a BOSS?
A BOSS is someone who holds the vision for transformation — not just for herself, but for everyone connected to her. She leads with both courage and compassion, building spaces where healing, growth, and flourishing aren't just possible — they’re expected. She moves forward with faith, strategy, and the understanding that her leadership creates ripples far beyond what she can see.
