How to Encourage Yourself By Marita Kinney

Life can be overwhelming sometimes and you could fall into depression if you lack daily encouragement. It’s easier to stay encouraged than to pull yourself out from depression. Most of us agree that preventive maintenance is better than digging yourself out from being depressed or discouraged. There are many benefits to having a positive attitude and being encouraged especially when you’re experiencing hard times. Lack of encouragement can cause some women to feel rejected, insignificant, and under-appreciated. I must inform you that if you’re seeking outside validation then you may become disappointed each time. You have to search within yourself and pull out that inner strength of knowing your worth and value. It’s dangerous to sit around and wait for other people to affirm you. What if no one takes the time to encourage you? When you chose to hand over that control to someone else, your happiness is placed in the palm of their hand and you become the victim if they fail to meet your expectations.
Encouraging yourself will take some practice. You must learn to cancel out your negative thoughts by an abundance of positive thoughts towards yourself. Your mind and thoughts can become your worst enemy and it will take some work to lead your thoughts and not follow your negative thoughts. Here are some tips to practice self-encouragement.
  •  Do Not trust your feelings-sometimes your emotions can and will deceive you.
  • Focus on your assets and not your short comings.
  • Surround yourself with positive people.
  • When receiving advice, ALWAYS consider the source.
  • Don’t ignore compliments, write down the compliments that people give you.
  • Whenever you get discouraged refer to your compliment notes.

Writing your compliments down could literally become a life saver. There are times in life when you may become too weak mentally, emotionally, and spiritually to pull any encouragement out. If this ever happens, your book of compliments can offer you the encouragement that you need. I have personally referred to my book of compliments during really tough times in my life. During my first book signing I passed around a notebook and asked my guest to write down words of encouragement for me. I had no idea how important that book would become when I found myself years later battling depression. You may hear people telling you to encourage yourself and it almost becomes a cliché, but it’s not. Encouraging yourself will give you the opportunity to live your life in a different perspective. You can embrace your life for the teaching lessons that it offers, the ability to see yourself in a brighter light, and opportunity to love yourself completely.

If you have the desire to see yourself differently, than you just have to start seeing yourself differently. It may take some time, but you can do it! Writing out all of your personal pros and cons will allow you to see how you truly see yourself. Look at the cons and realize what you can improve and what you have no control over. The areas in which you can make some changes, commit to a small goal to improve whatever it is that you are not satisfied with. The things that you cannot change, write down a more positive way of viewing that area in your life. The way you see yourself is only a reflection of your thoughts.

The Carnivorous Cons of Yelp By Peggy Arthur

As some of you may know we have recently rebranded our company from Curl Kitchen to truly Natural Boutique. With rebranding comes realization. You should use your past experiences to dictate where your dollars go. Being a small business owner means making ever dollar count but how can you make every review your business receives via the various platform (Google +, Facebook, Yelp…) count? Lets examine one very popular platform that has been in the news recently – Yelp.  Yelp was recently accused of extortion to drive businesses to pay for advertising services http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-yelp-ratings-20140905-story.html.

During the process of rebranding I looked back to our Yelp page. In doing so I noticed out of the 9 reviews that we have received since our soft opening March 28, 2014 only 4 of them are recommended. You might be asking yourself the question how in the world do you have so many reviews in such a short period of time. We used what is called a “call to action” within our own organization we did not achieve the reviews by going through Yelp.

In the past we purchased a Yelp “call to action” and the value was not justified. Now I realize by using our own “call to action” the expense of the incentive did not justify the act; however, our cost was not as great as using Yelp directly. While Yelp can be of help it can also be a carnivorous creature if you are not cautious. Your customer service could be top notch and so can your offerings but if you do not appeal to the consumer at the right time your business could easily fall from 4 stars to 1 star.  Imagine yourself using a service such a Groupon to sell 1,000 eyebrow-threading vouchers. You sell out in the first week. You collect your money and appointments are rolling in but what happens when you cannot service 100 people at the same time? It is likely these consumers will turn to a platform such as Yelp to review your business and it more than likely will not be pretty. Once these reviews are posted they will not be removed your rating will forever be impacted. These poor reviews could sit atop each search engine making it impossible for you to secure new relationships. So today I leave you with this thought before making short run decisions look at your long run goals.

HOW? STOPS NOW! WHO & WHERE?! By Jamila Thomas

The WHO question is fundamental to your vision’s implementation schedule. While everyone is not ready to  hear about your vision, there is someone, there are people WHO are definitely ready to buy into you. This statement may seem contemptuous, while not meant to be, it is the truth. There will be people WHO pick up the phone when you call. There will be people WHO will not answer the phone when you call (the trick is to not leave a voice message so you can call back, I am being facetious).

The point is someone is willing to listen. Many times, as it pertains to our visions, all we need is a listening ear or someone WHO will challenge us to think deeper. The process to determine what person or which people to call should be strategic. WHEN you decide to call you should be prepared with WHAT you are going to say and HOW you are going to say it.

It is true… you only have one opportunity to make a first impression. Therefore, make sure you have vetted wisely the individuals you deem will be helpful in moving you towards your vision.

Practical questions that force you to ponder the ability to implement your vision is key to your success. Asking the question WHERE will hone your ideas about illusions that your mind creates that say you can implement your visions everyWHERE. You say to yourself, “I want this vision to be implemented all around the world.” Well, that is ambitious and potentially possible. What does this decision mean to the people that will need your vision.
In other words, if your vision is meant to impact one specific state in order to change the dynamics of that particular state, it may not be tangibly feasible to implement the vision in another country at this particular time. It may be to the detriment of your vision to live beyond your visions initial purpose, initially. This is not to say your vision will not be altered in the future. It is simply to provide a strategic thought process as you begin to implement your vision.

Are you READY?
