One of my favorite lines from the intro song of In Living Color...is ‘How you living?.’ If you’ve never seen or heard of this iconic tv show, all I can say is go to Google search and find out more. As I think of entering into the final quarter of this year I have many mixed emotions for various reasons, personally and professionally. I’m also assessing my accomplishments this year that were on my radar and which goals have been achieved. I’m also thinking about the new fiscal year that is RIGHT around the corner. But as I ponder on what I can’t control (the time this year that has already passed) and the future (the time and circumstances of events that I can’t control ahead of me) that is ahead of me, what do I say or do? I’m going to live in THIS moment and give myself a little more grace, I’m going to live in gratitude and I’m setting some new goals for me… let’s start with the first this month, “grace.”
GRACE
The one thing we have to learn first I believe is to be kinder to the US! Grace literally means “to be kind to…” When I look at where I was last year this time emotionally and professionally I can actually see a newer me. I am stronger, more empathetic, more wiser and even more determined than ever to live life full out (how about you?). One main mistake I believe we make too often is to not take into account when we have become better. Many of us are not the same person we were five years ago in a good way. Even though we’ve been challenged with a pandemic and losing loved ones or seeing others pass on, we can truly see how important now more than ever it is to pursue purpose on a daily (not just a personal yearly or quarterly evaluation).
Self-care is a huge part of the journey of grace. Allowing some down time and doing the things that are the result of making much healthier choices; body, mind and spirit will show how much grace you’ve given to yourself. Being mentally fit helps one make better choices I believe for better physical and spiritual outcomes. It ALL starts with the way we approach life through our thoughts. Our thoughts form our actions or activity and the results will follow. There will be results without intentionally focused and consistent actions.
I’m hopeful that we all find a way to continue on a path of grace over grind and greed. Truly at times we just don’t seen to be getting where we think we’re heading as quickly as we like. But continue to remember Rome was not built in a day and there is no one else on this earth that is capable of doing what you were created to do in the manner that only you can do it! Believe it! So embrace all parts of your journey but never ever forget to to find value in your uniqueness. Love you and continue to give yourself just a little more grace, day by day.
