3 Tips to Avoid The Biggest Mistake I Made as An Entrepreneur By: Nicole Roberts Jones

0 comments
Everybody makes mistakes when starting something new, however I did not realize how BIG of a mistake I had made until 17 years into my business. By that 17th year,my business looked very successful;

 I had 10 chapters of my youth program in 10 states and it was growing
 I had an 100% full coaching client roster, so I ...
 Wrote & released my first book with the goal of continuing to give women the tools to take up the slack form my inability to take on another coaching client.Well when my book started to get popular...
 I started getting invitations to speak at women’s conferences, seminars and retreats all over the country.

I was doing the exact thing I had started my business to do, matter of fact that I KNEW I was born to do!  However I was only generating $13,000 a year.  I wasn’t generating ANY profit!

What happened in that moment?  I realized if I wanted to something different, then I would need to do something different.  I realized I needed help, so I hired a coach.  Now I have to tell you my coach rocked my world in my first coaching session, when she said,“Nicole didn’t you tell me you were a adjunct professor at USC and at Boston University teaching program development and you also told me you had a consulting practice where you with schools, businesses and government officials building programs, RIGHT?  Well the same way you developed new programs, new revenue streams for them, go do that FOR YOU!”  OH MY GOODNESS!  Just those words from that first session with my coach changed the trajectory of my business and really MY LIFE!

Immediately, I did just as my coach suggested and I developed my first online program.  That first program generated $10,000 in 60 days!  Soon I figured out a system to not just develop that program, but the next and the next and the next that moved the revenue I was generating in my business from $13,000 to over $200,000 within a year.   So here are the 3 things I learned in that moment that made the shift in my business;

1) Don’t Put All Your Eggs In One Basket.  I learned working with my coach, that I was only relying on one on one coaching to generate money in my business.  What I recognized is when you are only selling time for dollars, you can only serve so many people and what I learned next is....

2) Develop Multiple Streams Of Income.  I read an article in Forbes magazine that said, “8 out of 10 entrepreneurs who start businesses fail.  A whopping 80% crash and burn.” and one of the main reasons stated in the article was entrepreneurs “inability to nail a profitable business model with proven revenue streams.”  It was the step by step system I developed in that moment that allowed me to develop multiple revenue streams easily! Matter of fact it is that same system that I developed for me that I now use to coach other entrepreneurs, authors, speakers and coaches to create multiple income streams in their business.  It amazes me how so many business owners fail to take their expertise, their message and monetize it in order to generate additional revenue streams and actually in so doing create a platform to serve more clients with their genius.

3) You Must Have a Month-to-Month Strategy.  There is a saying,“when you fail to plan, you plan to fail” and for years I was failing to plan. I had no real month-to-month strategy as to how I would generate revenue. Once I began to develop products and therefore multiple ways to my ideal client, the natural next step to allow that money to continue to grow was to design a clear strategy. It was from actually having a plan that I finally began to generate predictable profit in my business.

What I learned at this profound moment in my business is that when you monetize the message in you, then move it into a profitable product platform and then develop strategy around it, you start truly achieving revenue in your business.  You see an increase in your income while simultaneously increasing the number of people you are able to serve and the impact you are making in the world.

3 Things That Are a Must in Reaching Your 2016 Goals By: Priscilla Q. Williams

 The New Year is always a time to reflect over your past goals and accomplishments. This is also a time to re-evaluate if you need to do somethings differently. If there were goals you set at the beginning of the year, but didn’t reach them then I’m sure your brain is working hard to see what needs to be done next. Before you start working on your 2016 goals I want to share with you 3 critical elements you must have in order to reach your New Year goals.  I have used these key elements myself and it has taken my life and my business to the next level. Let’s look at what those key simple strategies are.

1. Building Strong Relationships
Relationships are extremely important in helping you reach success. The key to building relationships all comes down to you authentically connecting with people. If you are aiming to reach a really big goal, you must have relationships with key people to help you get where you need to go. You need others to help you reach your goals, because you can’t do this alone. Even if the work depends on you doing it all, it is vital that you have a mentor, coach or accountability partner in place. Having powerful relationships with like -minded individuals will help you shorten your learning curve and reach the goals you desire. The one important thing about relationships is making sure that the relationships are authentic. Don’t connect with someone because of what you think they can do for you. Build strong relationship based off of a true character connection, and how you and that person can help sharpen each other’s skills.

2. Create a Strategy/Plan
When you are setting goals it is very important to have a plan in place. There are many individuals who have an idea of what goals they want to reach, but don’t have a roadmap to get them there. Creating vision boards and writing down your goals is a great start, but make sure to work with someone to help you put that goals in place like a coach or a trainer. It is much harder to reach your goals alone. If want to lose weight but haven’t created a strategy to get to your ideal weight, then you are bound for failure. It will take time, money and effort to reach your goal. So hiring a trainer or joining a gym may be what you need to put that plan in place. The more you plan and make a conscious effort to carry that plan out major results are bound to show up for you.

3. Major Determination
When you are determined to reach your goals, you will not let anything or anyone stop you no matter what. Determination is one of the most important key factors. There will always be distractions to hold you back, but you have to remain focused no matter what. This year you may have not reached all of goals you set, but if you are determined you will go back to the drawing board and do somethings different. You must be so determined to reach your goals that you can literally see it come to fruition. Overall, go into the New Year 2016 with some new determination and a new mindset. Don’t carry what happened this year over into the new year. Lead the New Year with new found relationships, a strategy in place, and new found determination. With these key components I know you will reach your goals and find the success you so desire. Have a powerful and prosperous New Year!

TheBOSSNetwork: What were some obstacles that you faced in the beginning process of starting your business or career?

 Avalaura Beharry: One of my biggest obstacles was being a first generation entrepreneur with no guide, no plan and no real support. I had no idea how to be a successful business woman. I operated on a wing and a prayer for far too long. Until one day I woke up and realized people with far less talent were more successful than me because they had coaches, mentors and a plan for success. My business changed from that day forward.

BN: What inspired you to break into your particular industry?

AV:I have done and continue to do the soul stirring, life altering inner work, I guide my clients to do. Once I dug deep, knew who I was, and discovered why I was here; I had no choice but to embrace my God given gifts and talents and answer my calling. Living a life of quiet desperation was far too painful. I had to create a life of passion and purpose.

3. How do you balance your personal and professional life or have you been able to find a balance?

AV: Balance is for ballerinas. I operate within the harmony and flow of my life by surrendering to whatever is happening and choosing to be responsive vs unconsciously reacting. I practice what I preach by committing to daily self-care rituals including prayer, meditation, and gratitude that keeps me laser focused, energized, and grounded. If I’m not right, my business aint tight!

BN: What is an inspirational quote that you live by?

AV: I am a quote-aholic. My social media is filled with daily quotes I live by. I adore anything Rumi. Here’s one of my favorites. "What matters is how quickly you do what your soul wants." - Rumi.

BN: Who were some influential people or mentors that helped or encouraged you along the way?

AV: There are countless individuals and family members that have encouraged me and contributed to my success. I have a strong success team that keeps me grounded, humbled and inspired. My spiritual teacher is my God sent. Without him, I would not be the powerhouse I am today.

BN: What are your ?must-haves? to keep your career or business going strong?

AV: I must have my faith, my relationship with God, intuition, prayer, meditation, gratitude, love, laughter, vacations, relationships with people who lift me higher including, friends, family, mentors, coaches, amazing clients who trust me to guide them, my phone, my laptop and social media.

BN: What is your definition of a BOSS?

AV:I posted this quote on my social media recently. “Being a boss aint about ballin’ out every night. Being a boss is about putting people in position and changing people’s lives. Being a boss is about being a leader and serving your way to success.
