The battle of the mediums By: Kristen Pope

Image
We’re in the battle of the mediums, and depending on which day you ask, determines who’s  winning. TV vs. Digital HBO vs. Netflix Broadcast News vs. Blogs …and on and on. More and more we hear why TV is a dying breed and everything we watch, will soon be online. That’s true. There will need to be an online presence for just about everything that happens on  TV, or in our modern world, or…it’s like it didn’t happen. According to Nielsen’s Total  Audience Report, about 2.6 million households are now “broadband only,” meaning they don’t  subscribe to cable or pick up a broadcast signal as of December 2014. BUT don’t send your televisions to the electronics graveyard just yet. The tube isn’t going away. It’s evolving. It’s become Apple TV, Roku, Google Chromecast and many more virtual ways to  live stream and watch video on demand. Still, as much as TV has it’s eulogy read, people are still  fighting for a space in the line up. New shows are still...

4 Common Mistakes Made by Small Business Start-ups by Tammy Lewis

Image
Lack of Capital and Resources: Way too often small businesses fail before they have a starting chance due to of lack of resources.  Before starting a business, you should always create a budget.  This should be included in your business plan.  Not everyone will have enough money in their savings to support their business start-up; however, you may try to obtain a business loan with your local bank or credit union.  The Small Business Administration also offers small business loans with low interest rates + prime (www.sba.gov). Lack of Knowledge: Just because you think a certain industry is glamorous doesn’t mean you have what it takes to be successful in that industry.  I think that being an actress is way past “glam” but I know that I don’t have the knowledge nor the skill set to make it in that type of industry.  You don’t have to have an education, but you do have to be educated about your industry.  Do your research by read...

Why don't I pour my 13+ years of industry expe...

One of the Habits of Highly Unsuccessful People By: Shana Naylor

Image
One of the Habits of Highly Unsuccessful People Why do I keep putting off til tomorrow the things I and today?  We all know that in order to be successful, we must take action. It’s simple, right? Then why is it so hard to do? Often it's because the tasks are boring or difficult, or something we just don't want to do. So, how do we overcome this? The problem is that denial won't cause the task to go away. Procrastination won’t make it any easier; in fact, it will make it harder. So what do we do? Here are a few ideas that can help: 1. Take a look at your thinking. If your mind is full of negative thoughts, you will start to believe that the task is impossible and that it's okay to give up, put it off, or leave it unfinished. Instead of thinking, “I can't do this,” tell yourself, “I will get this done now.” 2. Get to know when your peak performance time is. Regardless of how you feel about the task, choose that time to do it if it's urgent or important...

Becoming Fabulous and Faithful By Keita Joy

Image
I finally learned how to take back my life and become the fabulous and faithful woman I was purposed to be If you’re anything like me, you struggle with insecurities. If you were an appraiser, you would value your home (Your Spirit) below the actual market price. I have had successful careers, super chic clothes, and yet I would come home and doubt the temple that God had created. I went to church, sang the well-known gospel tracks, and even found time to mentor young girls. I was playing a role but didn’t understand why I was selected for the part. Have you ever felt this way? Always wondering if you’re worth it. Always minimizing your success or thinking that you are inferior to someone else. I finally began to listen to God. I mean really listen. My Spirit had grown tired of pity parties and self ridicule. I wanted to be free to love myself and all the beauty that comes with walking in transparency and authenticity. I knew that this transformation would propel my business to ...

Why Your Personal Brand Supersedes Your Current Circumstance By Nia Perry

Image
Before I ventured into this whirlwind of entrepreneurship, I worked a corporate job, just like many of you BOSS ladies. My guess is that like me, you were raised to work harder and smarter just to receive somewhat equal opportunities. These attributes ultimately equate to how you show up every day, and your personal brand. Maintaining a solid personal brand (on and off the job) consists of a few things: Performing your role with excellence and actually wanting to do a good job Over preparing and over delivering at whatever task there is to complete Anticipating needs of your clients, colleagues, and superiors Presenting yourself well professionally and engaging personably Although I experienced success as a manager, I began to feel antsy about the next phase of my career. Even still, I did above average in my role. Why? Because, my personal integrity was on the line. Eventually, I was made aware of a new position within the brand that would demand more responsibility fro...
