Ordered Steps; Timing is KEY by Felicia Shakespeare

Image
As one holding the ultimate responsibility of how our brand is perceived, we must be strategic when identifying branding opportunities. No matter what our status is in life, we must take care when preserving our personal brand. Celebrities are a great example to use in this case. Some actresses or actors, singers, and performers achieve a high level of success, then sometimes suddenly make one fatal mistake that changes everything. Some have allowed managers, mentors, family or spouses to take them so far off their brand that they lose touch with reality; and with it, their audience and market who loved them for their original brand. With this change came a loss of opportunities in viable movie roles or performance venues dried up, and with it, their finances. In all reality, every idea presented to you may not be the best in the greater scheme of your scope of endeavors. When we originally decided that a plan is wonderful, this may not exactly continue to be the case once the proc...

Unapologetically Authentic…How I Found My Purpose by Dorinda Walker

Image
When I reflect on my life today, I am grateful for the dark experiences from my past. I wear each negative and gut-wrenching experience as a badge of survival and strength. Sharing those experiences, overcoming my fear and exposing my vulnerability provides me the knowledge, courage, and vigor to live my best life. It provides me a freedom that liberated me from unsubstantiated feelings of unworthiness. I now know that there are no limits to what I am capable of accomplishing. Part of my progression came from writing my book, “Protected by Purpose.” While touring the country. I have been fortunate to meet many dynamic individuals who are struggling to find their voice. There have been countless occasions where people have confided to me that they have a story to tell. But they are afraid to be vulnerable. They fear the judgment of others. Believe me, I can relate. I once dwelled in the shame of my past, fearful of being socially marginalized for the things I did and experienced ...

The Power of Choice by Sylvia Duncan

Image
I’ve heard it said that after waking up, the average person makes about 12 decisions before 9am. A study by Cornell University says that individuals make 70 + choices every day. We choose what to wear, we choose what to eat, we choose the route we’ll take to where we need to go. The key words here are “We Choose”, it’s our choice; our power if you will. Yes, there is power in choice. And yet, we run the risk of becoming complacent when it comes to making choices. Most of our choices are done subconsciously. Sure, you may choose the route you’ll take to where you’re going, however, odds are you will drive that route without thinking about driving it because you probably know it like the back of your hands. So, you drive it without thinking about where to turn, or even when to stop. You made the choice to take a familiar route, therefore, you don’t have to put any effort into thinking about the actual act of driving. Destiny is Determined by Choices If we really understood, that our ...

The One that Got A Way By Yvette Gavin

Image
Long before Katy Perry’s song,  the one that got away  was a phrase often echoed in a fisherman’s story. It usually means the big fish that got away because the one that got away is always bigger than the one that got caught, right? When it comes to relationships, what does this idolism really means? Its most popular meaning is rooted in regret and implies that there is someone, in hindsight, that we regret not being with because when we look back there is a feeling of loss. My sister’s coincidental meeting with my ex-boyfriend from college got me thinking about the fisherman’s phase from a different perspective when she told me that my ex referred to me as ‘the one that got away.’ He’s an ex for a reason so I wasn’t interested in his regrets, but I was very interested in understanding what the statement says about the person who is bold enough to be the one that got away.  Whether it’s a dating, marital, work or friendship, walking away for a toxic relati...

Moving Beyond Your Baggage by Jacquie Hood Martin, PhD

Clarity is key to moving your life forward. When you gain perspective, a flood of questions can come running through your mind. How did this happen to me? How did I lose my view of myself? My life? How could I not see this going on around me? Sadly, it is not uncommon to miss the warning signs. At first glance, they seem benign, trivial, coincidence. We brush off the warnings as ‘matter-of-course’ when in actuality with each occurrence we shift our perspective rather than factor in the occurrence. When we factor it in or at least investigate, we see how we got to our current state of imbalance. The Law of Perspective, as found in my book Fulfilled! The Art & Joy of Balance encourages you not to just let it pass because nothing ever really passes unless we deal with it straight on. It remains tucked away in the back of your mind, nagging you, begging you to pay attention to it. You have missed the warning sign that can negatively or positively alter your perspective. When we are ...

What are you bringing to the Table? by Tammy P. Moore

The holiday season is upon us! My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, I love the food, fun, and fellowship and I love to cook (and eat)!  We can learn a lot about how to deal with life situations as we prepare for Thanksgiving dinner with our families. Whether you prepare the entire meal or you’re responsible for bringing a dish, your participation is needed to complete the meal.  One of my specialties is potato salad although I normally prepare the entire Thanksgiving dinner, my family loves this dish. To get the bomb potato salad there’s a lot of things that need to come together.  First, you must peel the potatoes, then you must cut them up, then you must boil them, let them cool and then mix up your ingredients to get the flavor just right. Such is your life.  If I were to talk to each of you individually I’m sure each one of you has a testimony about self-discovery.  In life I’m sure at times, things have gotten too hot to handle, you’ve been cut an...

Why your personal finances matter in entrepreneurship by AishaTaylor

Image
Entrepreneurship is a way to increase your income and pursue your dreams. However, many people don’t realize their personal finances can matter in business. Managing a business is more than just selling a product or service.  It requires financial discipline. Successful personal financial management can help you practice and develop the critical skills and habits needed to assess business spending, income, financial position, and the value received from business investments or spending. This post will share 4 reasons why solid personal financial management can help you better manage your business finances. Better manage business expenses When you practice financial discipline by reducing impulse spending, you are training yourself to say “no” to the things that don’t matter and say “yes” to more things that add value.  This will help you to avoid succumbing to the temptation to purchase the fresh new product, coaching program, or hot new thing your competitors are ...

Balancing Your Personal Leadership by "BOSS Influencer" Dr. Jacquie Hood Martin

Life is filled with strange encounters. In a moment and at times without notice, a situation arises that dumbfounds you. A place in your heart that is almost mended, a relationship that is just about repaired, or a wound that is nearly healed. Yet, out of the blue a trigger of how hurt you really were by it, causes you to realize you have not come as far as you think! Living a life of balance is not just how well you handle your finances, manage your affairs, keep up with meals, children, and exercise. It is at times how you balance yourself within the engagements you have with other people. Family, friends, co-workers, bosses, church folk, neighbors, and sometimes casual acquaintances can throw you off balance when you engage in their hurts. These real-life encounters can set anyone (yes, even you) off balance and off-kilter. As you consider how well or not you are balancing your life encounters, consider and remember you are a leader of one; one single person: self. There are ti...

Wait! Don’t Quit, Yet By "BOSS Influencer" Yvette Gavin

How to write a resignation letter made Google’s top 10 most searched ‘how to’ questions earlier this month. Congratulations if you’re among the folks moving on to a promising new job. But, wait. Don’t resign your current position or jump the gun by making announcements on social media until you’ve made it through the background checks and the offer is official. Here are three things you should know before giving your resignation letter: I have a friend who lost a job offer after a lemon poppy seed muffin caused her to fail a drug test. You may not eat muffins, but there are other reasons the offer could fall through. On that note, you can’t put yourself in any situation where your job offer may be compromised. In other words, if someone else in your presence is smoking illegal substances, you need to remove yourself from the situation. Drug tests aren’t the only thing that can go wrong at this point. A gentleman I know lost an offer for his dream job when the company discove...

3 Things You Should Never Do When You Present … And What to Do Instead by Bridgett McGowen

Image
1.   Never say to the audience "Come on! You can do better than that!"   You usually hear this after a presenter greets the audience and receives a less than enthusiastic greeting in return; oftentimes the presenter will insist - jokingly or otherwise - on telling the audience it can do a better job of returning his/her greeting. a. You have not done anything to get people hyped ... unless you have rock star status. And you immediately make the audience feel inadequate or like it has to do something it really does not want to do. b. Do not rely on the audience to get you excited. Never make the audience responsible for making you feel welcome and wanted. Get yourself pumped by thinking of the value you're about to bring that's going to rock the house! Think to yourself "Okay. You aren't excited now, but wait until you get a load of this presentation!" c. Greet everyone, accept the greeting you get in response, then set out to totally wow t...

How To Establish Your Business Identity and Claim It Boldly by April D. Byrd

Image
It’s important to establish your business on purpose, before thinking about money. Understanding what our divine purpose gives us better direction in going forward with what we do and why we do it. Divine purpose is the guide that gives us direction. We find it in prayer, meditation, and taking the time to be one with ourselves. Communicating with the source of the very reason we were created. We have to truly look deep into who we are to find out what exactly it is that we have to offer the world, with excellence! The first step to establishing a business identity is to look into personal divine purpose. Whatever we do, no matter how menial the job seems will play off this and provide peace in doing it. Even the perceived “hard” things. I believe when we understand the purpose behind what we do, we can boldly share it with others without hesitation, no matter what the situation. Recently I was in the car with a new friend that I meant at church, when she asked: “What do...
