Empowerment Networking Series Blog By Audrey Woodley

When social media and networking events start to build your target market, “ching ching,” you are on to something significant! Most of the time when you are looking to build your network – if you didn't already start in college – you will have to take the time to study your market and know the current shortage or need in your particular industry.  Some of you know all about the hair or jewelry industry.  It’s understandable, luxury, high style and bling are fun things in which to indulge.  But, you have to go beyond the surface.  I've noticed that most women don’t want to study their market, and usually spend more money into buying supplies, than building a team and a down line to make the money work for itself. You have to be the master of your plan, girly.  Know when to make cuts of people and habits that don’t serve you.  It’s time to get a new bag of friends when you’re working towards success and they are out party hopping.  Sometimes the ha...

NetWERK 101: 4 Ways to Establish a Genuine Connection By Koereyelle DuBose

Image
When you’re an Entrepreneur, you’re always at work, you’re always open for business and you’re always be looking for ways to connect with potential partners. You DO NOT have to be at an official “networking event” to network. In fact, you should set an intention to connect with like-minded people who could enhance your brand everywhere you go! One thing you want to avoid, however, is coming across as fake, phony or too needy when you meet someone.  To avoid that, use these four ways to establish a genuine connection: 1. Find the Common Denominator What do you have in common? There could be a common interest, common goal or you may have a common industry. Find a way to link your business with theirs in order to establish a clear connection. On the other hand, your connection could be as simple as having a mutual friend, being from the same home state or attending rival colleges. The world is small enough to find a connection with almost anyone! The 6 degrees of separation rul...

Five Reasons Your Business Is Not Growing By Raevyn Jones

Image
When starting any business, you should always be committed to constant growth. No one should open a business to reach one level and then stop the efforts. Although growth in business can be a slow process, always make sure you are doing what it takes to reach the next level- growth is not automatic. As yourself, "what steps am I taking to take my business to the next level?" Below is a list of 5 possible reasons your business has not had a growth spurt.        1. You Are Networking Wrong You have probably never heard this before as most people's advice is to network, network, and network. Networking is awesome for any business, but not if you aren't doing right. When people consider networking, they always think it means go out to events and meet new people. Wrong. Sometimes it business it is less about meeting new people, and more about getting to know the people around you a little better. You never know how someone in your circle can help you unles...

Mom & Dad, I Need Your Help! Prepare Your Child for College and See Them Succeed By Tanya Knight

Image
“ We can no longer afford to ignore them. We need to walk them through the education maze so that each and every student can and will go to college”. ~ Tanya Knight Preparing for college is a goal that both you and your child need to work towards. It’s vital that you take an active role during this process, to ensure your child succeeds! Most high schools will focus on college prep, particularly during the past two years of school, but getting ready for college involves more than ensuring your child takes the right courses and fills out applications. Fear of the Unknown Most college freshmen drop out of college simply because they were not prepared for college life and not just the increased level of academics, but living alone as well. For most students, this is the first time they will be living alone. This means that they need to become responsible and dependent upon themselves while they are in middle school and high school. This not only teaches responsibility thro...

Make A Decision By Kara Davis, M.D.

Image
The decision to join The BOSS Network was an easy one.  But my motivation for joining is probably not typical.  Yes, I wanted to connect with other women who are leaders in their fields.  Yes, I was impressed with the networking opportunity afforded by this particular social media.  And yes, I considered the possibility that I might be a source of inspiration to other, particularly younger, women.  But all of those things were just icing on the cake. So, let me tell you about the cake, or the real reason why I joined.  It is my passion, indeed my calling, to compel, motivate and encourage African-American women to live in such a way that we realize optimal health.  Right now, lifestyle related illnesses are impacting us on all fronts:  they drain our energy, shorten our life spans, reduce our productivity, diminish our quality of life and sap us financially—especially those who have no health insurance. My book, Spiritual Secrets to Weigh...

Networking For Success

Image
Contrary to popular belief, networking is more than meeting people and collecting business cards. Rather it is about establishing relationships with other business people that are mutually beneficial. The benefits of establishing a business network are many and can be realized throughout your career, from learning of career opportunities you may not have otherwise heard about, to earning more business and increasing revenue, to finding exactly the right employees to catapult your enterprise to the next level. No matter where you’re at in your career, you should always make time for networking. In order to make the process a winning experience for both you and the people in your network there are a few rules you should keep in mind, including: 1. An “It’s all about me,” attitude has no place in networking. 2. Focus on building relationships with the people in your network. 3. Always be the first to provide a referral, lead, or recommendation; and always reciprocate favors if an...

BOSS Busines Brunch Recap!

Image
On Tuesday, September 7, 2010, The BOSS Network embarked on the Inspired by Influencers Tour with a prelude to the Influencers event - the BOSS Business Brunch. Fifteen women joined us at the fabulous Private Stay by MadlyLiving Bed and Breakfast to dine, inspire, network, and share their stories. The owners of MadlyLiving spoke on health and wellness and following the path (or lack thereof) intended for you. Special guest speaker Tisa Silver shared a personal anecdote from her book, The Time Value of Life , to inspire women to get out and live TODAY. We hope that the women in attendance, and those who followed our tweets, were able to gain new perspectives and be encouraged in their journeys. "You can't do anything about the past, you don't know about the future...but right now is yours for the taking." -Tisa Silver
